Hexagram 26
大畜

Storing Great Strength

dà xù · Mountain over Heaven

Build your strength in quiet, then put it to real use.

The judgment

Heaven is held inside the mountain: great strength stored and restrained. Stay true. Do not just eat at home; go out and serve the wider world, and the great river can be crossed.

The six lines

Line 1 · Yang

Danger lies ahead. It is better to stop here than press on.

Line 2 · Yang

The axle block has been taken off the cart. You stop of your own accord, with no complaint, and wait.

Line 3 · Yang

Good horses run free at last. Still, stay careful and practice daily with cart and guard, and going forward is favorable.

Line 4 · Yin

A board is fixed on the young bull's horns before they can harm. Early restraint is the best kind and very favorable.

Line 5 · Yin

A gelded boar's tusks are no longer a threat. Address the root of the force, not its sharp end. This goes well.

Line 6 · Yang

How open the road of heaven is! The restraint has ended and the way runs clear in all directions.

The I Ching is a tool for reflection. Do not use it as the basis for medical, legal or money decisions.
