Without Pretense
wú wàng · Heaven over ThunderAct from what is true, not from what you are angling for.
When you act without scheming or falseness, things open up widely. Stay true. If you stray from what is right, trouble follows, and it is no time to push ahead.
The six lines
Move forward with no hidden motive. Going ahead in this spirit tends to go well.
You plow for the plowing's sake and clear new ground with no eye on returns. Without such reckoning, moving ahead is favorable.
Trouble comes that you did nothing to earn. Someone ties up an ox, a passerby takes it, and the villagers get the blame.
You can hold firmly to what you have. Stay as you are and there is no fault.
Trouble you did not cause, like an illness that came from nowhere. In life's ordinary snags, resist forcing a fix; it may clear on its own.
Even with pure intent, this is the end of the road. Moving now invites trouble and brings no gain.
