Hexagram 8
比

Drawing Close

bǐ · Water over Earth

Choose your people with care, and do not delay joining them.

The judgment

Coming together is good. Look again honestly at your intent, and ask whether it is generous, lasting and steady. Then there is no fault. The unsettled are starting to arrive. Whoever comes too late risks trouble.

The six lines

Line 1 · Yin

Approach with honest sincerity and there is no fault. Let it fill you as water fills a clay jar. Good things may come from unexpected directions.

Line 2 · Yin

You draw close from within, from your own center, and stay true. This inner connection is good.

Line 3 · Yin

These are not the companions you should be drawing near. Stop and think about who you are really joining.

Line 4 · Yin

You reach outward and align with someone worthy beyond your own circle. Keeping true in this is good.

Line 5 · Yang

Closeness shown openly. The king hunts on three sides and lets fleeing game go. Nobody needs warning. People stay by choice, and that is good.

Line 6 · Yin

You want to join but nothing heads it, no beginning holds it together. Without a real start, the end looks poor. Take this as a caution.
