Hexagram 31
咸

Mutual Attraction

xián · Lake over Mountain

Stay open enough to be moved, and honest about what moves you.

The judgment

The mountain holds the lake, and the two feel each other. Gentle mutual feeling opens the way. Stay true. Taking a wife here, or forming a deep bond, is favorable.

The six lines

Line 1 · Yin

You feel it in your big toe. The stirring is real, but it has not yet moved you.

Line 2 · Yin

You feel it in your calf, the urge to rush out. Moving now is dangerous; staying put is better.

Line 3 · Yang

You feel it in your thigh and cling to what others want. Going on this way brings regret.

Line 4 · Yang

Upright, you do well and regret fades. While your mind darts to and fro, you reach no further than friends who think like you.

Line 5 · Yang

You feel it along your back, a place barely moved. Little stirs you here, yet there is nothing to regret.

Line 6 · Yin

You feel it in jaw, cheeks and tongue. It is all talk now, with little beneath the words.
