Hexagram 15
谦

Humility

qiān · Earth over Mountain

Let your work speak, and keep yourself a little lower.

The judgment

Humility opens the way. The image is a mountain sitting beneath the earth: real substance keeping itself low. A person of character can carry this through to the end.

The six lines

Line 1 · Yin

Humble, and humble again. With this doubled modesty you can cross a great river. The signs are good.

Line 2 · Yin

Your modesty has become known, and others can hear it. Staying true keeps this good.

Line 3 · Yang

You work hard and stay modest about it. Carried through to the end, this is the good path.

Line 4 · Yin

Nothing stands against you. Keep showing your humility, and let it spread through what you do.

Line 5 · Yin

Without relying on wealth, you can still move your neighbors. If a march against wrongdoers is truly needed, make it. Humility is not always giving way.

Line 6 · Yin

Your modesty is well known, and now it can serve action. March your troops, but only to set your own towns in order. Start near home.

The I Ching is a tool for reflection. Do not use it as the basis for medical, legal or money decisions.
